Managed Service Provider

Offer low-cost, high-quality LTE indoors

Managed Service Providers (MSPs) offer high-speed telecommunications infrastructure and services to Enterprises who want to outsource their IT business for any number of reasons – including cost, resources, and complexity. They often specialize in vertical markets such as hospitality, real estate or sports and entertainment, and are usually filling a gap that isn’t being addressed by large mobile and cable operators, especially in-building where 80% of Internet traffic occurs. Their customers often have a part of their business that is open to the public, creating a need for solutions that are operator-neutral. DAS solutions have been successful in this market, but they can be very expensive to deploy, especially for smaller customers. CBRS offers a new opportunity for MSPs to invest in delivering neutral host LTE solutions both indoors and out, at the ease and cost of deploying Wi-Fi.

The CBRS Advantage

CBRS offer 150 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band. Spectrum is shared with Federal incumbents using a unique Spectrum Access System (SAS) mechanism. MSPs can buy a Priority Access License (PAL) for a specific geographic area at a cost expected to be far cheaper than exclusive licenses offered today, or can operate freely in the 80 MHz of spectrum set aside for General Access (GAA), delivering interference-free LTE services.

The benefits are clear. The ability to offer a high-quality, high-speed LTE network that is operator-neutral means that MSPs can add a whole new set of service offering to their portfolio. Property managers can add indoor LTE to Wi-Fi as a selling point for attracting new tenants. Hotels and convention centers can keep their guests connected while they are anywhere on the property. CBRS can be used to reduce interference on the Wi-Fi network, or to run specific IoT services like cameras and door entry that require security and reliability. MSPs are just starting to discover what CBRS makes possible, and we are working with them to explore the best of the new ideas.
